Oracle MHC's story

Oracle's story begins with collaboration and a vision of improved mental heath services for those with mental heath injuries (e.g., PTSD, depression, anxiety) in Saskatchewan. 

Oracle's story begins with our partner clinic, Saskatoon Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Center (SMRC). SMRC has provided high quality multidisciplinary rehabilitation for physical injuries since 1996. As physical rehabilitation evolved in Saskatchewan over the subsequent decades, awareness of the importance of mental health factors continued to grow. In response to this shift, SMRC continued to develop their mental health support team as part of the interdisciplinary treatment of physical injuries. 

Around 2017 interdisciplinary treatment of individuals with workplace mental health injuries started emerging in Saskatchewan. Several physical rehabilitation clinics, including SMRC, combined their existing physical rehabilitation structure and doctoral level psychologists to provide interdisciplinary mental health programs (MHPs) for clients with workplace mental health injuries, such as PTSD. 

As the pilot projects for MHPs continued to develop and improve, Dr. Olson worked in a publicly-owned rehabilitation clinic where he led one of the largest WCB MHP programs in Saskatchewan. As part of the evolving service delivery models, in 2020 Dr. Olson created the first Virtual MHP (VMHP) for WCB clients in Saskatchewan. This new service delivery model allowed clients to access service in their home community, which eliminated the previous need for some clients to travel hundreds of kilometers multiple times per week to access adequate treatment. 

While discussing common experiences and challenges across clinics, Dr. Olson and SMRC ownership decided to shift the standard once again for mental health rehabilitation in Saskatchewan. Together they created a clinic specifically focused on providing high quality interdisciplinary mental health services. Rather than being a physical rehabilitation clinic providing mental health services, Oracle MHC was developed as a mental health clinic first. We are focused on providing empirically supported, interdisciplinary mental health services.
